Tropical Storm Maria

Well, it looks like I'm going to get to experience my first hurricane. My buddy and I are flying down to St. Maarten tomorrow and the center of Maria is forecast to go over us on Saturday.

Palarran has been secured for the hurricane season so there isn't much I'll need to do to prepare. Last year Earl went 25 miles north as a cat 2 without any boats dragging in Oyster Pond. Hopefully this will be uneventfull. We'll go go a hotel if it gets too bad but right now it looks like it will only be a cat 1.

Good luck to everyone else in the path.

David.

Re: Tropical Storm Maria

The forecast call for a strong tropical storm or minimun cat 1 racing south of st marteen, you will be fine if the boat is secured ... Good luck..

Re: Tropical Storm Maria

The NHS thinks Maria's going to run right through the Leewards. The center's supposed to pass about 42 nm NE of Nevis. Looking at the various model results, I'm hoping she might track a little more north than the "official" track. Wishful thinking, maybe. They're expecting the winds to be 55 knots, gusting to 65 by Saturday morning when she goes by.

I no longer have a boat to worry about, but I've got my yard guy coming over tomorrow to climb up and cut the coconuts off the trees near the house. They'd be like 15 pound cannonballs in a high wind.

Good luck to all in the Leewards!

Re: Tropical Storm Maria

It's here on StormCARIB.com. Look for the "Maria tools" link under the satellite image.

I could use one for calculating closest point of approach of airborne coconuts.

Re: Tropical Storm Maria

Not much wind in Sint Maarten from Maria. The usual roads flooded.

Re: Tropical Storm Maria

I've never met Mark but I'd guess the reason for no posting is he found a nice chickita and is romancing her with bottles of home brew.

As far as Maria - what a joke. Budget Marine closed on Saturday due to the "storm" which effectively ruined my trip down there. We ran out of supplies and spent the time cleaning bilges, which where already clean. The only upside is we completely took the Westin Dawn Beach Casino - I mean - holy cow. I came back with more cheese then I left with, cha-ching.

I don't think the wind in Oyster Pond went over 30 kts. It did rain quite a bit off and on. But on a whole - way overblown. SpecialD, we where the ONLY people at Captain Olivers on Saturday night. It was totally empty (except for Scott). Lindsey should have popped this week. Baby boy. I hope we run into you before we leave next April.
