Things to Do in Martinique

Hi everyone,
My wife and I, and some guests, will be chartering in Martinique in June. I'm looking for things to do. Most of the tourist things occur in months other than June. The charter base is Le Marin and I am considering spending a day or two on the north end of St. Lucia.
I already know that June may not be the ideal month, but I can't help that.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron

Never got that far south so can't give specifics, but wouldn't you do the same there that you would do on any tropical island: sail, beach, snorkel, dive, beach, bar, restaurant, local color, shopping, music? After all, you aren't going to a giant city with museums and architectural wonders or to a big national park.

I assume you will be buying a guidebook to help you plan your itinerary, pick anchorages, etc. They usually include information on the island as well as navigation.

You might also check www.noonsite.com section.

Go to the Three Rivers distillery (Trois Rivières Distillery). It is a great tour. It is worth renting a car and seeing some of the waterfalls. Very nice.
If you are going on to St Luca, go on south to Soufirere. Good diving and the Petons are cool.

If one has an interest in vulcanology a visit to St-Pierre and its museum, Musée vulcanologique Franck Perret, would be worth a visit. St-Pierre was the former capital of Martinique until its destruction in the eruption of Mt. Pelee in 1902.

How long will you be there?
First get Doyle's Cruising Guide. There are at least twenty places to take your boat. Most are on the south coast of the Bay of Fort de France and south from there.
From Marin go out to St Anne for some great restaurants, and then gunkhole up to Fort de France. If time premits take some inland tours.
This is a French country so food stores only have French labels, as does McDonnalda. Yes they have wiif ashore but the electrical outlets are not conpatable with the US.
It's a favorite of mine.

Thanks for the suggestions! We'll be there only 1 week, but that should be enoughb for some gunk holing as well as a few shore excursions.
