The Thorny Path

We are planning to travel south from Florida through the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos, making our way on the thorny path to the Virgin Islands. Looking for advice for the best ports to weather in along the Dominican and puerto Rico, as well as the best time of year to go ( we're planning to leave in late October).
