As we continue preparing ourselves and the boat for our Bahamian, Cuba, East Coast cruise, the Admiral needs to know what are your Top Ten things we cannot leave without. I know, besides money, food and water - let us know thanks!

I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT leave without the Tony Chachere's and Tabasco sauce.

A DVD and BlueRay player. A nice sound system. Plenty of reading material or a Kindle loaded with books. An enormous music collection. A case of tempura sauce. Wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. An inflatable hot tub. An iPod. Enough wine to last the whole cruise. Foam ear plugs. Massage oil. A folding bicycle. A kayak. A windsurfer.

That's ten not absolutely essentials plus four bonus items...enjoy!

I for certain second the foam ear plugs. Never leave on any but the most tame trip without them. Plus bring a years worth of your favorite sunscreen. Hard to find sunscreen I like away from home.

Ear plugs are a new one for me. What is the purpose - besides keeping noise out - LOL...

Engine Spares - Boating = fixing your boat in exotic places
Consumables - oil, coolant, greases, silicone sprays
Sail repair stuff - Or spare sails
Tackle - more ground and dock tackle than you think you need
Selection of blocks so forth suitable for your boat

Consider also what not to bring - i.e. know the regualtions and customs of the countries you will visit.

Passports & visas?

There are a lot more than 10 things to bring and if you already have a handle on some of the good provisioning lists that are posted here from time to time and are looking for the top 10 "comfort" items I would second the music, books, card games, board games stuff.

Good time to take up a hobby like macrame, decorative knotting, etc...

Lingerie is also a good idea. Maybe even for the first mate as well

only thing earplugs does is keep out the sounds of mother nature--those are needed to know whenye are dragging anchor and when storms are coming in the night--and the pitch of the wind....all the good ma nature sounds......

I was sailing along in the mid teens with the wind howling through the holes in my Anderson turnbuckles. I didn't have ear plugs, but I did tape the holes shut. The howling was an irritable sound, and seemed to be the cry of mayhem..........i2f

Petersons Field Guide to Birds of North America and also a good book on types of fish, one that tells you what's good eating. The Bird book doesn't have to tell you what's good eating, although I do have an excellent recipe for Torres Straits pigeons.

Actually 10) is a 'nice to have but' you can do without ;-)

Good canvas (dodger, bimini, breathable side curtains, and deck canvas)
Good anchoring gear, a bigger anchor then specified, a windlass with spare parts, chain.
A relaible autopilot with spares, driving round the clock can be a real drag with a small crew.
Good sails that can be reefed easily and efficiently.
