Re: Surfing in the Caribbean

The Alpine,

I'd like to ask a few questions about Eleuthera. Specifics about a few breaks. I will be ther this month from the 21st to the 29th.

Can you put me in touch with anyone who is there that could take me to a northern outer reef by Mann Island, if there is swell? Is Rainbow Bay/ Hidden beach beach break are worth it? Do you think the Hidden Beach point waves is a good wave to try if mid sized swell. Is Holiday beach sketchy compared to lots of Puerto Rico type waves? I can't find any info on James Point. Not besided a few words here and there. No pics or anyting noteworth have I found. Would James point be to sketchy to do alone, with currents and sharks, etc.?

I plan to surf at Surfers mostly but love to try out other spots. Palmetto Point and Rock Sound would be fun if I had a buddy to take me on a panga or something.. or paddel to.

Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Re: Surfing in the Caribbean

RD,

Thanks for the contact info. I will be staying in surfers beach area and then rainbow bay. So, you keep your boat there? I bet thats a blast. Do you have access to any outer reef areas with a small craft? I am willing to pay gas money and buy some beers and food if we could link up and get some secret spots or just letting me know some inside tips on where to go if the swell has tricky components. I haven't rented a car yet. Do yo have any tips or suggestions on who to use? I tired Hilton Johnson but got no response. Thanks and I will definately call you when I'm there if some swell is poping!

Re: Surfing in the Caribbean

RD Surf,

I see you are also from NC. It is looking like Palmetto Point or Rock Sound or some eastern beach will be working next Wed or Thurs. Would you like to link up? I'd love to have a surfing partner for some outer reefs. I will have a jeep Cherokee and have plenty of room. My email address is my cruiser forum user name @gmail.com. If we can't make a surf then I'd also like to drop by where you keep you boat and ask a few questions about traveling to and around Eleuthera. If that is cool with you? I currently have a 27' C&C, 1976. My brother and I transported his 35' Cabo Express to Stuart back in December and plan on taking it over to Grand Bahamas this year and then next year to another main island in the chain. If you Saturday midday. If you cant meet up and have any other surfing buddies that would want to catch a wave please let me know. I am a little nervous about paddeling way outter reef solo. I did it in the Virgin Island at St. Johns (1/2 mile paddle) but they don't have as many large spooky creatures.. I read atleast.Ok thanks,

Re: Surfing in the Caribbean

Yes. But not the big stuff from m last week. Been like 5-6 last 3 days just went offshore toda . Got some waves and trying to link up with rd surf. Meet tons of good people local and travelers/ part timers. Plenty of people with boats down here. Great trip so far but I'm sure it can be tricky with the winds but this week has been super. Makes me think about the other islands to the south. It's hard to access the waves and local support is nice if you can get it. Thanks alpine
