anybody in that area? ...
coming Monday early afternoon I'm flying with LIAT to St Vincent, where captain Ben of s/v Giggles (HR42 ketch) is picking me up for leasurely sail back to Curacao, island hopping, swimming, relaxing etc etc ...
back in time for hurricane season (we hope) ...

Curacao is 'cane proof, free anchoring on Spanish Water, entrance from the ocean at Santa Barbara Beach ...
Spanish Water = a big inland salt water bay/shelter ...

Curacao Marine if you want/need to be on the hard to work on your boat, or put your boat on their storage area on land ...

The current weather on the ABC islands is something you’d typically find in September: high humidity and no wind, ingredients that usually lead to “Warwarus” (Small tornadoes, large dust devils or landspouts) or “Hos” (Tornadoes). Knowing this, a large part of the islands were expecting this and in fact it did on Aruba. At around 11:45 AM the meteorological service of Curacao issued a tornado watch, indicating that the conditions were right for a possible tornado.

Thats not 15 days ago.

Hurricane Ivan left a little damage on Aruba in 2004, and Tropical Storm Joan punished the coast of Curacao in 1988, the last major hurricane to hit any of the ABCs head-on was in 1877,

Tropical Storm Cesar passed over the island in 1996 while Tropical Depression Irene passed over the island in 1971.

Although Tomas did not directly strike the ABC islands, the storm produced intermittent rainfall over the islands, triggering localized flooding during the night of November 1 to November 2. In total, at least 10.4 in (265 mm) of precipitation ....

I am having a quiet month researching this stuff to know what to do this hurricane season. But I am finding that whenever anyone says: 'No hurricanes go there' they are invariably wrong!
