St. Augustine Inlet

I will be moving to St.Augustine next week and I was wondering if I could get some recent knowledge on the inlet at St.Augustine. I am aware of the shoaling, curious about one side of the channel being deeper than the other.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: St.Augustine Inlet

Brian,

St. Aug is our home port and we have been in and out of there every other week or so all season. We last came through just shy of 2 weeks back now. At that time the channel was well marked from the sea bouy which is charted to the inside with bouys along the way which are not charted. Follow the north side (red bouys) of the channel for the best water depth. I have not seen less than 15' at low tide all season following the red bouys. Check out active captain for the latest updates which include a sketch showing the current channel configuration.

Thanks for the info Eric. We will be neighbors soon. I bought The Back 40 Urban Cafe, take over 12/1. I will let you know when I get there and get settled.

Re: St.Augustine Inlet

Brian,

Eric M gave good advice. Let me add that you should stay really close to the red buoys, and expect a jog to the north around a south-side shoal (well marked by a green buoy) halfway in. Also, do NOT shortcut the channel -- join the channel at the safe water buoy. The channel is deep if you stay in it. All incidents I have seen are excursions outside the marked channel.

Re: St. Augustine Inlet

Where is or will be the Back 40 Urban Cafe? Sounds interesting. I come to St. Augustine a good bit too. Never had any trouble with the channel, just follow the red and green all the way end. No short cuts is good advice.
