Spanish Virgins cruising guide

Hey y'all just booked a ten day bareboat out of Fajardo with Sail Caribe. Is the Plavidis Virgin Islands guide the one to get? Amazon doesn't really say if it covers the Spanish Virgins. Also any tips on favorite spots would be great.

Should be great fun. I've only done Culebra and Viequez on commercial vessels but there are many sailors about and it looks like 10 days will be enough to zip around each and get a taste for it. Different vibe between the two Islands. I am heading down from Maine on my own boat this winter so I will be monitoring replays from those who have sailed the two islands. Enjoy.

Make sure you set aside enought time for Culebra.. Many nice spots there...

You may like Vieques but I did not like it much; starting with the shortage of places with good anchor holding and a safe dinghy dock... The bio bays are famous but a bit overrated IMHO...

Quite different to the US and British VIs. You can find a bay to be anchored all by yourself which unless its hurricane season you're unlikely to manage in the BVIs.

Culebrita is nice, but will be busy with the crowd from PR at the weekends.

Bahia Salinas and Ensenada Honda on Vieques

If you can get a hold of Don Street's cruising guide to the Spanish Virgins at a reasonable price, pick it up. It's out of date, but the anchorage descriptions and sailing directions are still valid. Plus, I just enjoy his writing style--very entertaining.

I can tell you that the 2nd edition of the Pavlidis guide to Puerto Rico covers the SVI. The van Sant book (at least the old version I have) also covers SVI.Old versions of the most common BVI guide (Scott?) also have a section on SVI that seems the same as in va Sant's book. The old Street guide to the Virgins als covers the SVI By the way, none of those four sources are very current but hey, rocks do not move!

Sorry I cannot comment on the BVI guide by Pavlidis because I do not have it.
