Spanish Virgins Advice

Cruising from St. John to the Spanish Virgins and local yacht supply houses out of cruising guides. Any advice for Culebra and Vieques?

Re: Spanish Virgins Advice

Hi, palmettomoon.

Welcome to CF.

Cruising in the SVI is quite different from the USVI and BVI. We enjoyed the uncrowded anchorages and rather stark landscapes ashore. Do a search on "spanish virgins" using the link in my signature line and you'll find a number of archived threads with good info.

Anchorages we particularly enjoyed were...

Culebra: Bahia de Almodovar and Ensenada Dakity
Culebrita
Vieques: Bahia Salinas and Ensenada Honda

There's no dockside water or fuel available, so plan accordingly.

I thought it was an oxymoron.

Re: Spanish Virgins Advice

Hud has it right, but you do need a decent chart as there are a lot more rocks to hit than in the USVI or the BVI, especially between Culebra and Fajardo.

The main anchorage on Culebra, also called Ensenada Honda, is very safe and secure with a nice little town and much better holding than most of the other anchorages.

I was going to say the best advice was to stay away from sailors in general!
