South Florida - Best Place to Provision / Do Some Projects

We're headed to Vero for Christmas and then want to move on further south while we wait on good weather to cross the stream to the Bahamas.....our boat is always a work in progress and I have some projects I want to work on while we wait for a good window -- Stuart/Manatee pocket looks like a good spot, I'm always in need of obscure mechanical parts for my engine and other goodies -- also need to pick up Explorer Charts, courtesy flags and re-stock the provision chest

Also wouldn't mind heading further south, Miami for new years sounds nice -- Lauderdale looks super expensive and no where to anchor BUT a visit to Sailorman has been on my wishlist for a while

Anywhere near Miami I could dingy to get project stuff?

As with most folks -- budget is limited, anchoring/cheap mooring balls preferred and some decent shops for boat work (auto parts, hardware stores, West/Chandleries, etc. would be great

Fort Lauderdale would be best but you might try West Palm. Its a good place to start for the Bahamas.

we like dinner key mooring field in miami -- did a lot of checking on costs and ft laud is very expensive - we do rent a car one or two days to get a lot of reprovisiong done - dinner key mooring field is getting better as they have been in business only 1 yr and getting better on how to run it -
lots of places to get boat parts -
have a bus that can get you to public transportation that can take you anywhere -
if you want more infor please send us a priv msg and i will tell you where we do it - but we do rent a car for 2 days and go to a lot of different places and do not use conventional super markets as they are to expensive

just our thoughts
chuck patty and svsoulmates
on a mooring dinner key marina - headed to central american after the 1st

Manatee pocket limited anchoring to 10 days last time I was there, but West Marine is very accessible by dinghy, as well as a couple restaurants you can dinghy to. I've also anchored just upstream from there.

There are a couple marine stores within walking distance from the anchorages near the Palm Beach (Lake Worth) inlet, which is a great place to stage as well. I've left there a night for the Bahamas several times.
