There are many outfits good in BVI - we used UBS Dive Center

Tony and Kate will take good care of you. Do the "bookwork" at home first and make it easier.

As noted above, if you REALLY want to take advantage of your time in the islands, get certified before you go. Some great dive sites - and it sucks to spend vacation time in class.

Re: Scuba Diving, British Virgin Islands

Where to go depends upon whether you will be land-based or boat-based.

I did my PADI certification with Sail Caribbean Divers out of Hodge's Creek, doing both my studying and initial dives at Cooper Island (they also have an office in The Bight on Norman Island). Subsequently I've dived with Dive BVI with success and can also recommend Blue Water Divers out of Nanny Cay.
I had lots of time when I did this as I was living aboard my boat, but if you are on a schedule then I'd also recommend doing your certification elsewhere so that when you are in the BVI you can dive the sites (and sights) instead of having to nurse a hangover while trying to study dive tables.

If you learn to dive in the B.V.I.,it will spoil you for other places.

You mean other places like Oklahoma? or other spots in the Caribbean?

I never considered BVI much of a dive spot compared to other Caribbean spots.

Ditto.

I can also recommend Dive BVI.

Did everything except the open water test at home. (winter in MN...) My instructor helped arrange the open water in the BVIs. What a treat!
