Santa Marta Marina

I am looking for a cruiser who is either currently in the marina or has recently docked there. I am planning on spending a week there in the fall and am looking for information on the marina. In particular I understand that coal dust from the large ships loading just to the east coat your boat with a layer of the coal dust. Is this still a problem or has something changed in that regard. What has been your general experience in using the marina? What clearance agent did you use and were you happy with them?

Thanks or any information.

Re: Santa Marta Marina

To begin with the marina staff are first rate and are very helpful. Yes there is some dust in the air but fortunately the water is free and you can keep on top of it with a quick daily rinse. When you stay in the marina 5 nights they do all the paperwork for you and this is included in your marina fee. We really liked Santa Marta, reminded us of some areas of old Europe. Everyone is out walking in the town center after dark and the city really comes alive. You can get decent meals for cheap..3 bucks for a good lunch and double that for dinner. Taxi service is 2 bucks for anywhere in town. Great place!!

Don't drink the tap water there, drink the water from plastic bags that are sold on every street corner.

Re: Santa Marta Marina

Just out of curiosity, on what continent/island is Santa Marta Marina located?
