Sailing PR-FL in Jan: Advice needed

Hello,
We're a couple of experienced sailors -- did the entire eastern Caribbean -- who are looking for advice on planning our trip back from Puerto Rico to Florida in mid-January. We're utterly unfamiliar with weather patterns on the route, which differ significantly than the E Caribbean, so don't know how to plan a weather window. What should we keep in mind? Also, if anyone has advice on routing, we'd appreciate that as well - we would prefer to do the trip in one shot, as we need to get back to the States on a deadline.

Many thanks!
