Sailing from Miami to Tortola

I am a Brazilian with good Sailing Experience but never did a passage in northern hemisphere
I will be Sailing a Bénéteau 50 from miami to BVI. What is The best route to take , how long this will takeand what kind of winds and currents can I expect in March
Any other tips?

Miami to Tortola you will be going dead against the trade winds and current all the way. Strength varies a lot that time of year but 15-20 kts would not be unusual.

In March you may still see periodic cold fronts coming in from the north that often reverse the easterly trades and can give you a boost on your course. Just be careful the front doesn't bring stronger winds than you expect and don't get caught in the Gulf Stream in a norther.

You can beat your head against the weather, go non stop and get there in a 10-14 days with any luck. Or you can take your time, island hop, enjoy the trip and take a couple of months.

There's lots to enjoy along the way if you have the time. The Bahamas are not to be missed. The $300 dollar fee will be well worth it's cost to transit the Bahamas........i2f

If you are in a hurry go east to 65W and then south. The Thorny Path through the Bahamas done in a hurry can be brutal.
