Sailing BVI May/June

We are bareboating around the BVI in late May/early June. Can anyone tell me why everyone recommends a counter-clockwise trip around the BVI? Anyone know what to expect from the winds there in late May/early June?

I posted this question earlier but in the wrong forum (I'm a newbie to this site). Sorry if you've seen it twice.

Welcome to the forum. Typically winds and swells are from the east. Waters inside the Sir Francis Drake Channel are more protected for heading eastward than doing the same on the north side of Tortola. Coming west on the north side is downwind and sea, more comfortable than the opposite. Weather does change and I've done numerous trips the "wrong" way. It depends on the conditions you encounter while here. Enjoy your trip.

The closer you get to July, the more rain and storms you can expect. But the rain is warm and the storms are usually short.

You also don't have to do a full loop either. We've left Road Town and headed to Jost Van Dyke some trips and then gone back counter clock-wise to north sound, maybe having our last night near Marina Cay or Cooper and back to the base. If you aren't going to stop along the north shore at all then there's no reason to do a full loop.

Okay maties. We're thinking maybe St. John's as well since we have two weeks. Any advice on that?

Stop at Caneel Bay for their Sunday Brunch (about $35 PP) then you won't have to eat again for a week! Also, take advantage of the U. S. National Park Service moorings all around St. John at $15 per night (half price with a Golden Age Card)

Spend some time in Little Harbor, Peter Island , AKA Unemployment cove . Drop your bow anchor and tie your stern line to the old concrete dock . I love that place !

Enjoy Enjoy

Can I come

Regards

Re: Sailing BVI May/June

You do understand, don't you, that you will have to do the check-out/check-in thing when you go from the BVI to the USVI? Not a big deal, and St. John is definitely worth the visit, but it is something to be aware of. I understand that the authorities have been doing more checking recently for people who try to go back and forth without following the formalities.

The check in/out process is not a big deal. Check out of the BVI at Soper's hole or Jost Van Dyke, Sail over to Cruz Bay and check in there. Then check back into the BVI. No need to check out of the USVI.

With two weeks, I'd certainly visit St. John. Cheap moorings and plenty of nice spots to check out.
