Rhode Island to Fort Lauderdale in November

Due to some not calculated events, I am late with the refit of my 40' sailboat to start a voyage to the Pacific. The idea came up with my sailing mate to put the boat in sailing condition and sail it to Florida where the warmer climate could help to finish the refit for a Febriary departure to Panama.
This idea seems good but we have to sail to Florida in late November from Rhode Island and since time is in essence, we have to do it day and night all the way with maybe one or two stops. We would sail as close to shore as safely possible but West of the Golf stream.
Would anyone have experience doing this route in late November? Suggestions are welcome.

Re: Rhode Island to Fort Lauderdale in November

Most southern transits are after November 1 due to insurance restrictions and the storm season. You should find a lot of company. Many boats are opting for this rout at least to Charlsetown or so on the way to the Caribbean. If you can travel the ICW you can continue south even in contrary weather and wind. Bridge clearances are about 62 to 65 feet if you can clear them but keep a sharp eye ahead on your charts. Be prepared to motor. I know of several people who have done this and stayed on anchor every night (no cost).

With all due respect -
Either
a) The weather is going to kick your butt
or
b) You are so lucky you should buy a lottery ticket.

Southbound staying west of the Gulf stream around Hatteras in late November? Not for me.

Re: Rhode Island to Fort Lauderdale in November

Thanks for both Nicholson 58 and FSMike input.
I consider the Hatteras area for the Gulf stream and I will enter the ICW at Chesapeake. Then I will see how can I porgress inside the ICW and if it is slow, I can continue outside from the Florida coast.

FSMike's point certainly changed my mind, thank for it.
