Recent Experience in DR/Luperon?

We're hoping to get some recent & first hand comments on the clearance and anchorage expenses in Luperon as well as feedback regarding safety and provisions. General editorials are welcome as well.
Many Thanks.

Re: Recent Experience in DR/Luperon?

Here a blog with checkin costs from friends of ours who cleared-in a couple of weeks ago. You could e-mail them if have additional questions.

Re: Recent Experience in DR/Luperon?

I cleared there and anchored for a couple days last June.

A little more of a run around than say the Bahamas, especially if you don't speak Spanish, but overall, I found it reasonably straight forward.

When I was there, there was a guy who delivered fuel to your boat if you wanted as well as water and some provisions. A couple restaurants very close, vegetables easy to buy, as well as some basic provisioning needs. Harbor is very protected. I would not want to arrive there for a first time after dark.

Some people who want a slip and more convenient clearance go to Oceanworld instead, but personally didn't think Luperon was difficult enough to warrant avoiding it for that reason. There's plenty of liveaboards who will be happy to point you in the right direction.

I already had local currency, but seem to recall a bank and ATM not far down the main street.
