Puerto Rico sailing

Hello,

I'm looking at week long live-aboard sailing courses and was planning on doing one in the virgin islands, but noticed both travel and the class would be much cheaper in Puerto Rico. Is the scenery of the BVI or USVI worth the premium or would someone from the midwest be just as content spending the week in Puerto Rico? Thanks

Re: Puerto Rico sailing

I have heard the north is bare of marinas, and the south is better for cruising. I was actually just looking into puerto rico yesterday. If you search the forums, there is a free puerto rico cruising guide that could give you some tips on what to expect. Obviously with only a week long course your ammount of areas to be experienced may be more limited.

Re: Puerto Rico sailing

We kept our boat in Fajardo, Puerto Rico for 5 months. The sailing is very good with lots of nice anchorages and more aids to navigation to learn piloting. I took a dozen Miami based sea scouts sailing there for a weeks instruction and they had a great time. I would recommend sailing out of Fajardo

There are also far fewer boats than in the Virgins.

I would save the money and go to PR...
