Puerto Rico Boat Tax Question

I will be working in PR for 2 years, and will be docking my US registered/documented sailboat in Fajardo during that time. I understand that there is a need to leave PR periodically to avoid paying the resident's boat tax, which would likely be quite expensive. Does anyone know the specifics on this, or know where I could find out?

Puerto Rico registration

Hi John-
I would love to find out what you can tell me about keeping a boat in Puerto Rico, mostly just the registration and similar official stuff. I'll take a chance and just give you my e-mail address (almost) alpeaks (at)
If you notice this and send me a note I can tell you more details about the whys and wherefores...
Thanks a lot,
