Dinghies and outboards are stolen everywhere in the Caribbean. You must raise it well out of the water. Dogs do not hear or smell silent swimmers. They arrive with wire cutters hanging from a float they snip the chain (even stainless) and let the dinghy drift away to an awaiting accomplice some distance back. This was the method used in Margarita for many years.

And not only locals will steal dinghies.

My 15hp four stroke (100lb) was stolen from my sailboat where it was locked. This was in quiet Grenada.

Well folks, mostly the recommendations are correct, lift it and lock it. I am over here in the western carribean in Bocas Del Toto , Panama, and we sure have a few dinghys taken but nothing like what has been reported here. The police have recovered a number of the pangas/ dinghys stolen in the last few months. With the engines!!

I ran into most of the islands in the eastern carribean in the mid to late 70s and loved it. A couple of years ago I was in a marina office over here and picked up one of those slick yachting magazines and was looking at a double page spread of a arel view of a beautiful little lagoon totally encompaninsed by high rises and mega yachts. Geez, it was Marigo bay, when I was last there it was bananas, nothing else, no docks, nothing.

So you see where I am coming from, it is not Marigo Bay thirty years ago, this archipilligo is going to be home for a while. Also Hurricane Free thought history.
