PRIVATE Bareboat Rental - Canary Islands Sailing?

Hallo everyone.

I was here some weeks ago only to find out that buying a boat in the USA (I live in europe) is not so easy. I appreciate very much the help I received from many of you and this avoided many problems. Now I will buy in europe, sweden perhaps. Thank You.

This winter in March I want to find a
private sailboat "bareboat" rental in the Canary Islands.

Anyone who knows about any website with private owners that rent boats in the Canary Islands ?

I rented a boat like this in Sweden last summer,
600 euros per week for a 35 feet 30 years old sail boat. She was just fine for us.

All I see are companies renting recent expensive boats.
I do not mind an old good sailboat.......

Nlot sure you´ll find something for that price but Canarysail are a nice bunch, based in La Gomera. Sailing Holidays in the Sunshine - RYA Sail Courses - canarysail.com Beautiful Island and some great sailing around there.

most private owners do not do rentals, they find it difficult to get insurance,etc , etc There is also lots of rules involving chartering in EU countries. In my experience its rare

Thank you for your reponse but it depends on the country. In sweden there is a long tradition of sail boat rentals at about half the price of commercial rentals and they do have insurances covering for their rentals. But perhaps this kind of rentals is unique to Sweden, since I cannot find it elsewhere to such an extent. Look

look at thiis page, okey it is swedish, but swede's speak english so you can contact them. Many boats are rented for prices between 300 and 1000 euros depending on size and age. That is great fun and not so expensive.

I think its due to regulations governing equipment and insurance of chart vessels. The owner would have to rent his vessel to you on a friendship type basis, without insurance. In case of loss, he wouldn't see anything back. This may well be different in Sweden due to their maritime/social-democratic traditions.

Yes, for a big boat, this might be true, almost, but there are smaller boats like the maxi 77 that rents for 400 euros and even cheaper off season. But who wants to sail off season in Sweden lol. Anyway, I rented this summer a 38 footer for 600 euros with GPS and everything.

Yes, it is different probably because all the private owners have insurances that include rentals.

When you need a doctor would it be worth saving a few bucks going to a friend who did a course on first aid? If you need plumber would you have the guy that is mowing your lawn and in need of work fix the pipe leaking just because he says he can do it cheap. Normaly from what I have seen if a boat owner is trying to rent a boat it is too old or in too bad condition for a good charer company to offer, you would not want to charter it any way. We get several requests from owners that are broke, there boats are way past due for serious repairs and mainenance to put threre near derlicks in our fleet. We cant even look close as it wont work. We see these people do some charters under the table charters and we almost always hear of a disaster. We have bailed a few of them out.
If you want to charter a good boat go to a good charter company and have great time. You will remember the experience alot longer than the few dollors you may save.

Sorry, this is not my way of doing it. In sweden, privage rentals are more common than company rentals and it works very fine. Thanks for your input anyway.

Hope a private charter works out for you. I dont know much about the Canary Islands and chartering a boat there. Private charters dont work in the Bahamas but it sound like they work in Sweden. How ever you go have a good time and let us know about your trip.
