I'd want to check on other ports
of entry to see if they are open including Freeport
, Walker's and Green Turtle. Like you, I prefer day sailing
to over night sails
According to policy: "Visiting boaters must clear Customs
and Immigration at the nearest designated Port of Entry." (1) They are not supposed to bypass the nearest entry point, spend a few days sailing the banks, to check in days later at some other port of entry. You will be find stories here of some boats that attempted that being told to turn around. I would guess, at present however, they are likely not going to be as tough on that.
If Walker's is open, personally, I'd be tempted to cross to the banks day 1, anchor
, and head
up to Walker's the next day and enjoy cruising the upper Cays all checked in after. If Walker's is closed I'd be tempted to try emailing Bahamian Custom's and immigration and ask if it's okay to check in at G.T.
