Planning to Cross the Atlantic Late September - Halifax, NS to the Canaries

I'm crewing on a 53 foot yacht crossing in late September, the captain is very experienced, but I'd like to get some advice from others before we set sail ... mainly I'd like to know how worried I should be about hurricane season.
Thanks everyone

from halifax ns once you have crossed the continental shelf you will be sailing into the azores high,so assuming you have good weather info and the boat is reasonably fast, sailing out of the path of an on coming depression should not be a problem.

Thanks so much folks! It's my first crossing, and I didn't want to let my excitement impair my sense of judgment!

If you are worried, then you should not go.

Hi Barnakiel,
I appreciate your words. I was just asking to see if I should be worried. As I mentioned, sometimes when you're really excited for something it's easy to overlook important details, or not weigh out pros and cons accurately, so I was seeking the knowledge of people with experience to help me realize these factors.
I think it's safe to have a degree of caution when embarking on a new challenge. Maybe 'worry' is the wrong word to use.
Imagine we didn't do all the things we were 'worried' about...

If you were leaving tomorrow, I would said definitely no, TS Jose and Invest 91 are both tracking to be in your way. I would check forecasts myself and make you own decision when the time comes.
