Pirate Attack off Honduras

I just copied this off a Facebook post, I have no other info.

Pirate attack on S/V Amistad & Capt. Cliff Vaughs off Honduras

I received a report that Cliff Vaughs on S/V Amistad was boarded by pirates who took everything, including his boat. He was left near shore and had to swim, no dinghy. then he walked many hours to a small town.

Cliff is about 60 and African-American. He is okay, very shaken. He is near Gracias a Dios in Honduras. He is trying to get out of there.

Re: Pirate Attack off Honduras

Certainly getting interesting in Honduras. This is the second boat robbed while underway along the coast this year.

"Gracias a Dios" is a cape along the coast of Nicaragua/Honduras. So named by Columbus after having a very difficult time rounding it in unfavorable conditions. It is a very remote place in an area which has had some security issues in the past.

Hopefully more details will be posted soon. At least he got ashore alive.

Cliff has been sailing these waters for 20 years and has many friends. Could you get his predicament out to both the SW and NW nets so his friends will know he needs help.

Here is a Youtube video of Cliff and S/V Amistad: . Please be on the lookout for Cliff and his boat.

S/V Amistad is a 41' 1979 center cockpit ketch with a US registration from San Diego, CA

Interesting fellow; Cliff Vaughs, aka Captain Medianoche.

Re: Pirate Attack off Honduras

That is just awful. We met Cliff in Roatan, saw his beautiful boat Amistad, and very much enjoyed getting a chance to hang out with him for an evening.

In the past 20 days, he is the second person that we know personally who has been boarded in Honduras. Hopefully, Amistad will be returned to him.
