Pigs in the Bahamas

Most islanders will slaughter, cook, and prepare the table for cruisers at a fair price. We paid less than $8 per person when visiting an outlying island off Tobago years ago, and that included beer. Way more food than can be eaten. Deal usually is that everyone, including the islanders, get to eat. Fair is fair. One of our crew actually wound up marrying one of the islanders. My cousin says its still like that. So ask at your local island about having a pig roast prepared, or just attending one if your alone or just a couple. Its always party time if your willing to pay and participate.

Ah, but sir, some of those mixed blood daughters are what dreams are made of. One time we were in Cebu and met a family who's daughters were half Filipino(Bisaya) and half German. Some of the most beautiful woman this side of heaven.

Reminds me of Tonga where I saw a boar rooting in the graveyard. Went up & had a look later,the hole may have been more than 1ft deep. Always wondered why the 6ft deep tradition applied until that point.

Lots of catwalk models use them to keep their weight down, and a Dr did an experiment of having one before leaving on a trip to India, as all previous trips had him incapacitated with Delhi belly (bad news if you have to speak at conferences).

He had no tummy trouble on his trip (even pushing the testing to buying food off street vendors).

Seems there's useful potential symbiotic relationships available with tape worms, if we care to try it (I don't).

It would certainly be a slow but steady cure for somebody chronically obese.

Maggots, do not forget to bring along maggots. Great for treating open wounds, as protein when supplies are low, and they make cute little pets.

And the leaches. Although, they may all be more effective than some medications today and don't come with a three page warming of side effects that may kill you.

Wasn't there a video awhile ago here about a lady on an inflatable nearing the pig beach. Hubby said "don't touch them" so she did and she got pulled into the water. Then someone wrote: "And HE posted the whole thing?!? Hope she doesn't know...":f acepalm:

The pigs were placed on, and are OWNED by, Big Major’s Spot many years ago by Staniel Cay residents.
These pigs aren’t really feral (or wild). While they may not be kept in a pen, they’re surrounded and fed by humans virtually all day.
The (Staniel Cay) Islanders hold fund raising (school, clinic, church) pig roasts several times a year.

The pigs on Big Major's are a bit of a tourist attraction so taking one is probably not a good idea. Nor would I recommend swimming with your cats and the pigs at the same time, but please take some videos if you do.

There are many other islands in the Bahamas where pigs roam freely, as well as chickens. I once asked a local resident how people know who owns the pigs and chickens. He replied that "It don't matta mon", if you want one you just go take it.
