Paradise Island Bridge

Ok, so before anyone starts ripping on me for what im about to explain....i know...

the captian and another crew member decided to jump off the top of the bridge.the highest part.65ft clearence, 30 ft depth.nothing people havent done before.and the result is....captian has a broken femur, is in a public hospital for another day (terrible hospital, go private no matter what out here) and is getting airlifted back to canada tomorrow we hope. i was the only one who didnt jump, being the dinghy catch guy.other crew member was fine.now being a entire crew in the mid twenties this sort of thing does happen.....but as wisdom often comes with a price.dont jump off the bridge.defence force mentioned the charge for attemped suicide and luckily they didnt give us a hard time about that.the price was paid.

yes.iknow.

Sorry to hear about that accident.

The femur is a very hard bone to break. Did he hit something other than water?

(Though I know one builds up a good velocity from 65 feet)

I dont think we hit anything.....but the speed he hit the water was pretty rediculus...im still sore today from it, but walking.
And yes, lesson learned.... drink plenty of milk a few days before jumping off bone crushing bridges

I grew up near a river with two dams. We routinely jumped at 45 feet (measured with a tape) and had to clear a 10' concrete walkway at water level. It was no big deal and no one got hurt or killed over a 5 year period of raising hell.

That said we started at the 10' level and worked our way up. There were a couple key lessons learned on the way. One was don't hold your nose, another was don't look down, and a third was keep your legs together and legs and body straight.

Good memories!

I hope that you learned that what you have now is precious. Personally, I was never that stupid at 25...on the bright side, you defeated Darwin this time!

The purpose of life is not to arrive sedately
at the grave with a well preserved corpse,
but rather to slide in, sideways, bent and
battered, yelling "Wow! What a ride!"

That's a quote from somebody that I have on the back of the trailer I use to carry my roadrace motorcycles. At least at 66 years I've stopped jumping off bridges.
Now if I could just learn to stop crashing.

Speaking of the Paradise Island Bridges.

One night, shortly after I purchased my Hunter 30, I decided to take my boat across the harbour to Hurricane Hole Marina with a couple guys from work. We got over there just fine, had more than a few drinks, but when it came time to leave we couldn't get the engine started. So I walked back across the bridge to Potter's Cay, where I kept my boat, fired up my 3hp Evinrude, and took my dinghy back to Hurricane Hole. With the help of my friends, I managed to pull and push my boat under the bridges and back to it's slip at the East Bay Marina.

After that, I either walked over to Hurricane Hole, or caught a ride with a friend.
