Okeechobee Passage Closing this Summer

Drought and lock maintenance have combined to close this waterway from June through September.

Cruisers Net your best source for up to date information on the Waterway - ALL Okeechobee News

Dang! We'll just have to go down to the Keys....

Thanks for that update and link Mark.

I'd just like to add before those with boats in Indiantown panic, according to the linked information, the entire waterway is not being shut down. One lock closing will prevent complete transit, but at least according the the above information the St.Lucie lock will keep operating on a restricted schedule, which I've experienced when I kept my boat at Indiantown. However, it might be wise to stay appraised of depths and potential changes to this schedule.

And yeah life could be worse than a forced cruise of the Keys....

Indiantown Marina is located on the St. Lucie Canal which links Stuart on the East Coast to Fort Myers on the West Coast via Lake Okeechobee and the Calloosahatchee River.
