Ocean City MD

We are in Cape May waiting for wind to sail down the coast to Norfolk. I'm considering running to OC tomorrow to get a jump but I'm worried about the currents. We have 6 1/2 draft and can do 6 kts in calm seas. Is Ocean City doable?

Re: Ocean City MD

There's plenty of depth through the inlet, but the current can be fierce when the tide's running in or out. Also, there're really no good spots to anchor inside the inlet, so you'll need to arrange for a transient slip at Sunset Marina.

You might also want to look into Breakwater Harbor at Lewes, Delaware, as an alternative. It's a good anchorage, and it's easy to get in and out.

Re: Ocean City MD

Agreed. We did it in 2010 with a similar draft, no problem. The one caution I would add is that it is a sportfishing/pleasure boating harbor. You will find people anchored and fishing or catching bait in the middle of the channel, and they act as if you are intruding by coming through. As I remarked in a post a few years back, we were referred to at Sunset Marina (which was very good) as "THE" sailboat. We were the only one! pete

Thanks, we will give Breakwater Harbor a try.
