NYC / Long Island Overland Transport

Hi all,

Need to find & obtain quotes for a reputable yacht transport company capable of moving a full keeled, 32' sloop. Boat will be moved from a private residence to a marina nearby (within 10 miles) or, depending on cost, to a marina 35 miles away.

I've found a list here: Boat and Yacht Transport NY - New York Directory of Boat Haulers

but am seeking personal recommendations / friends of friends / past experiences.

Thanks!

Would love to but it's on the hard in a neighborhood. Depending on condition of rigging and sails, sailing / motoring to the far marina will be the course of action.

Do they tow overland?

The main hurtle is getting the boat from driveway to marina.

You'll probably need a crane for an hour along with a yacht transport truck. The larger marinas often have a HD pickup truck with hydraulic yacht trailer. Call marinas in your destination harbor or one-two over.

figure out the work needed first and negotiate the whole package (truck and yard work).
Crane you'll want to get separately.

Nope not at all....

Long Island boat yard used to have trailers with trolleys in the center... Jack boat up, place forward cross beam of block on trolley, back truck and trailer up till rear cross beam of bracing is under trailer, re block using poppets on trailer, strap and head to marina

Re: NYC / Long Island Overland Transport

There are several companies that also have hydraulic flat bed trailers. The bed is shaped like a long U open at the back end of the trailer. Back the trailers up under the boat with the keel in the open part of the U. Assume the boat is sitting on stands where it's at. So as the trailer backs up to the first stand a hydraulic leg is raised that takes over the support from that stand. The hydraulic legs are on tracks so as the trailer backs up further the leg stays in place on the boat. When you reach the next stand they pop up the next hydraulic leg.

Once the trailer is all the way under the boat and all the hydraulic legs in place, all the legs are jacked up to raise the boat off the ground and you just drive away with it. Very cool.

I know a guy based in FL with this rig. He is originally from New England and does make hauls up that way so worth a call. Contact

If he can't do it he can probably make a recommendation.
