The use of models beats the heck out of cherry-picking.

That is true. The IPCC models have tended to be too conservative.

Quote:
Across two decades and thousands of pages of reports, the world's most authoritative voice on climate science has consistently understated the rate and intensity of climate change and the danger those impacts represent, say a growing number of studies on the topic.

Re: More Bad News for Caribbean Coral Reefs

Jackdale - you can't teach a pig to dance. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig.

I don't know why it's easier for some to trust a bunch of late-night table-pounding tv and radio demagogues over a supermajority of the world's climate scientists... but many do. The power of the media, I suppose.

What bugs me the most is the people who have latched onto the denial camp as the excuse for doing nothing at all. Time for a bigger truck, Martha. And where's Canada in all of this? Selling tarsands oil to the US for LESS than world price. So we're not only keeping the addicts well supplied, we're screwing ourselves too at the same time.

The real climate troubles, if predictions hold, will occur after most of us here are dead, so it's fairly safe to be in denial. Some or most of humanity will muddle through, we hope. I hope enough of an Internet record remains for historians to see who thought what and when.

... to stay civil, I guess one must now remember to avoid talk of religion, politics, and now science. So noted.

OK.

I don't believe what you do. That is pretty obvious. And never will I am pretty sure though I read on both sides. And I watch little or no TV and listen to no radio thank you very much. I do read your insult(s) though.

So, Mr. smart ass, know it all, scientific master, what can the human race do to make the world cooler? Please ignore that it has been much cooler and warmer in the past - oh wait, you have done that before.....

Pick your temperature that is "correct" and pray tell the ignorant of the world your solution and our salvation.

Quickly though because I will unsubscribe shortly as the same is being said by the same people on the "other forum".

  1. It's not about "making the world cooler" or some other calamitous rewind to an agrarian existence. Stop pretending that this is what's being suggested.
  2. There are 1001 other reasons we should pay more attention to reducing our impact on the planet. Stop using "global warning" and this demonization of genuine, informed concern ("eco-terrorists") as your excuse to do nothing.
  3. There are 1002 things we individually and collectively can do. You're probably doing some thoughtful stuff already. Great. The harder part is coming up; collective action. It won't hurt, honest.
  4. Wow, not since Galileo has there been such an orchestrated uprising against science. The sun stopped spinning around Earth, yet we have managed to come to terms with it. It's ok to disagree with something, but please do it with better science. Leave the conspiracy stuff to the tinfoil brigade.
  5. Lead, follow, or get outta the way.

Temperature and CO2 go up and they go down, except...

I think the earth's thermostat is being messed with. But whom? Aliens? Al Gore?

Re: More Bad News for Caribbean Coral Reefs

With the increase in Co2 as it passes me by to join it's destination on high i'm getting short on breathe, no more tours to the Andes as oxygen is getting even more scarce than before, can't swim because the water's PH is so high it's dissolving the coral.....

What a crock of crap.......You people need to go sailing!

Re: More Bad News for Caribbean Coral Reefs

The worst pollution i see is friggin plastic bags, like ghosts on the move the Med is swamped with them.

I returned to Qld (Australia) at xmas and was so impressed to see families walking the beach , kid's and dogs in tow picking up all things made of plastic or rubber.

That's being pro-active, that's doing something about where we sail!

The majority of those plastic items come from boats other than disgusting countries whom dump there trash from barges at sea....

I have done work for the 'Algalita Foundation' now there's some people who put the effort in! Good on you Charlie!!!!!!
