Moorings in Beaufort, NC??

Hello fellow cruisers!!
My boyfriend and I are new to cruising. We were sailing from Annapolis, MD to Charleston, SC when we decided to duck into Beaufort, NC to avoid some nasty weather. The marina is quite expensive, and a I'm wondering if anyone has some insider info about using a mooring ball for about a week. They seem to be private, but are right across from the city marina. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

They're private and some are abandoned. I wouldn't trust them. There's a nice little anchorage for two or three boats in Morehead City. A lot less current than in Beaufort.

You can also anchor just behind Beaufort off of the docks of Town Creek Marina just past the drawbridge.

mooring in Beaufort

Hello
For the best information visit with my friends John & Lisa Nelson at Nelson yacht sales they can be a great help and love cruisers. Just tell them you are a friend of Richard Head and I am sure they will be glad to help. I always anchor, but watch the current, put out two anchors one up current and one down current. In Beaufort anchor to the current and forget the wind,. pull both anchors tight to the bow with no slack and you will just rotate around a point when the current changes. Beaufort is a fun town your will enjoy it.
Cheers.

I should not say this, But I was there this past summer and the city dock next to the sanitary diner was free for 3 says. But with the snow birds it may have changed. I was also told they dont allow privet moorings, so if you take one, the police cant make you move even if the guy that clams it comes back, but I dont know how well you will sleep at night.

Yeah, I forgot about the Sanitary Restaurant. Free dock, if it's full ask to raft off.

beaufort mooring

The Sanitary eatery is in Morehead City not Beaufort and while the dock may be free you will miss the fun of Beaufort.
