Miami to Rio Dulce - Which route?

Departure will be next Nov or the following Jan. It looks like there are 2 routs 1. Bahamas-Windward Passage-Jamaica-Rio D. 2. Key West-Isla Muheres-Rio D. Route 1 is shorter but going against the current flow may be troublesome. Route 2 is longer and I've already gone down the "Thorny Path". Pegasus has a, relative to current fashion, weak engine. I probably will be single-handed. What's the best route??

We did the route from Key West to Isla and had no problems.
