If you choose to take in the West coast of FL, there is still at least one bridge on the ICW that is at 50'. We had a centerboarder (CB) that drew 4.5 up and 9.5 down. Best of both worlds.

So CB is Chesapeake Bay? Not citizens Band? Not the old dance place as in CBGB's? hmmm...practical max draft depth? Well, freighters with up to 42' draft make it up the ship channel, so I'd say that was the practical max draft if you are on a ship. Those same freighters have about 186' clearance at the center span of the main or west span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridges. You did not specify what kind or type or size boat you were looking at so why not a freighter? They have masts too!. If you go up some rivers you will come to bridges with a bit less air draft, but for most practical purposes, any size mast will do. I have to wonder why with such extensive information to the nth degree about Chesapeake Bay boating so readily available online why such a question is posed here...."Bottom" line so to speak? If the "CB" is your prime area 5' is fine, 4.5 is of course better and 6' is acceptable. Same for the Bahamas. As for air draft, like I said 186'..now if you wish to go under the secondary span of the bridges, the vertical clearance is 58', but don't take our word. Look on a chart!

If you are doing the ICW much I would go somewhat less than 64' air draft, The Georgetown, SC Wacamaw River high bridge showed 61' clearance the last time I went under. (Oct 1, 2015). Also saw a boat with 60' mast (+ antenna) get stuck before the Dunlawton Bridge south of Daytona, Fl. Jan 7, 2016. There were extreme high tides both times.

Doesn't work that way. You may start a thread, but you don't own it.

It will be closed when no more forum members want to add anything (or when a moderator decides it needs to be closed for some reason).

Generally the mods only close a thread if there has been an inordinate amount of flaming and rancor.

And just because members let a thread die doesn't mean it can't spring back to life suddenly. I saw a thread this mornings that had been revived after sitting dormant since 2011. The longest I've seen is 8 yr.
