looking for a rya examiner around the caribbean

i and few more sailors want to do the RYA yatchmaster offshore. we got our own boats and we are located in panama so we are looking for some one who is willing to comme here and do it in one of our boats.
so not sure if it is a good place to post it but if any one is or know some one please get in touch

ondeck Sailing out of Falmouth Harbour in Antigua offers RYA courses and examinations, that is the closest location to Panama that I know of, unfortunately. But flying an examiner out should be easier than doing so from the U.K.

The boat you take the exam on will need to be MCA coded. Cheaper to fly to Antigua (Ondeck or Miramar) or Grenada (Bluewater Sailiing) and take the course on one of their boats.

Sobriyah is correct, I'd forgotten that. I had asked ondeck if we could do the class on my boat (much more comfortable and bigger than their training boat) but they explained to me about the MCA requirements and while I had much of the requirements covered it was simpler to use their vessel.

I don't think they have given you the full facts although they may only do exams on their boats.

Hmm , much confusion

There is no connection between RYA exams and the requirements for MCA coded yachts. You can quite happily do the exam on your own boat , in fact the RYA prefer it.

If you are engaging a school, and they provide a boat AND that boat is UK flagged then it must be MCA coded.

So there is no reason not to use your own boat , or in fact to do the exams on one of your friends boats and you can all crew for each other, in fact the examiner may do more then one YM exam at a time.

If there is a few of you it might be cheaper to fly the examiner from the UK.

Have you definitely confirmed the school itself isn't flying out the examiner. Note the school has nothing to do with the examiner, you apply to the RYA

The boat used must be between 7m (23ft) and 24m (78ft) LOA and be in sound, seaworthy condition, equipped to the standard set out in the RYA Boat Safety Handbook 2nd Edition (code G103). The boat must be equipped with a full up to date set of charts and navigational publications and be efficiently crewed, as the examiner will not take part in the management of the boat during the exam.
