Let's Go to Maine !

Hello Northern Sailors:
We will be cruising the sounds from Long Island to Nantucket in May, and then making our third trip to Maine around the first of June. We’ll be there until probably mid- September, then seriously south to Bahamas or Virgins. Hope to at least cross paths with some of the other folks on Cruiser’s Forum. Let's compare notes on anchorages close to amenities, on fishing, and on good places and techniques for harvesting or obtaining other seafood and local produce. Does anybody have a list of Farmers’ Markets accessible to cruisers. How about facilities with real swimming pools for lap swimmng? What other information can we share?
We’d love to here from you.
Regards, Neill (Bligh) and Donna S/V Etude and Opus
We have a few posts on our blog at

Hi Neil & Donna,

Our boat is in dry storage near Rockport. We plan on moving aboard mid June and will watch for you as we cruise Maine this summer. We also will be heading south in Sept.

Greenport, LI has boater's access to a farmer's market and a fishmarket in Stirling harbor you can even access by dinghy. I don't know that the farmer's market will have too much in May however, but there are at least two in walking distance from the harbor, one in town opposite the supermarket and another on the North Road on the way to Marion.

Thanks, Chris. We are familiar with that co-op. Belfast was one of our favourite stops last year.

Local info in Maine

Hi Neill and Donna,

I checked out your blog and you seem to be enjoying your time in Maine waters. We sail the coast of Maine out of Rockland and would be happy to assist with any local info.
