La Pesca, Mexico

I am kinddda looking around for someplace to tie up near enough to the USA (I am from Texas) that I can live cheaply but still be within striking distance from US medical care and other convinces. Perhaps I will be braver if this toes in the water works as I hope.

I used google earth and scoped the east coast of Mexico and read everything here + what else I could find about La Pesca. From the sky there appears to be docks and piers, I could not tell if the electric service was 50 or 30 amp, I suppose because I am not paying for the enhanced google earth service. (bad humor) but the place looks pretty good.

The question that beg to be answered is since it is a given that I am not the only one with the command of google why is it this location is not publicized. Is it safe? Is it safe to get to and from Texas from and to by land? And so forth.

Anybody out there have any reasonably current information about La Pesca?

I went to Noonsite and the silence of information about La Pesca was deafening. When I Google I find little to be said.

It appears to be a small fishing village. My thoughts now, when it gets closer I guess I will GMC Truck down there and run a urinalysis on the living conditions, electric service and so forth. The fishing, from the geography looks great for my Kayak and offshore Mainship 34, and that was the main theme I saw online. I just do not want to get caught up in a narco export community for obvious reasons. If it looks good then I better get cracking on Rosetta Stone, which I need to do anyway.

Again, anybody been there lately?

From Google Earth there is no marina per se, but the Google Earth photomap is from 2003 or earlier so is unreliable. From the internet it is a popular "birding" site and there are 3 RV locations around the village. Since it is only a 5 hour drive to there as reported in several sites, your on-site exploration is the only viable means to find out what is there.
- - From a marine perspective you can bet on finding a "bar" at the river entrance with most probably minimal water except at high tide. No large fishing boats were visible in the Google Earth photo so it seems the little "skiffs" or pirogues are the main fishing vessels. Be sure to check out the inlet to see what is actually there. It would be of interest to other cruisers to know if it could be used to duck in to avoid weather.
- - As a place to "hide out" it looks ideal if you do not want any place with "modern" facilities. Be sure to check out the little bigger village of La Sota at the junction of the main north-south road with the hwy 70 heading to La Pesca. There might be bigger supply stores there.
- - Being only 5 hours from Texas by car seems ideal for occasional "Wal-Marts" runs. I, for one, would

Looks like they've suffered a lot of flooding from Hurricane Alex.

La Pesca Tamaulipas

Of course, if you believe their tourism video, it's an ethereal place of magic and snuggly wildlife.
