Jamaica and dogs aboard

We're thinking of stopping in Jamaica and have a dog aboard. I'm trying to find the rules regarding that. If anyone knows or can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mary

Re: Jamaica and dogs aboard

pettravel.com ususally has some good info. There can be a difference between "importing" a pet into the country versus simply arriving with a pet onboard a yacht. Best to check directly with the authorities to get the latest.

Re: Jamaica and dogs aboard

We had friends sail through Jamaica and their dog wasn't allowed on land. She had to stay on board the entire time they were there. This was last year.

Stopped there years ago with cats aboard. Same thing...just asked not to bring them ashore. We cleared in at Port Antonio and did take one of the cats ashore near the docks only. No one cared. At anchor otherwise so did not matter.

Re: Jamaica and dogs aboard

Jamaica does not allow cats and dogs because they may carry rabies. Jamaica is rabies free. If cruisers are found to be ignoring the rules regarding pets then Jamaica might enact more draconian rules like quarantining pets or banning them outright. Allowing pets on our boats while cruising Jamaica is already generous.

Glass Slipper, we will see you this afternoon at the kids activities on Flip Flop beach. We are heading to Jamaica soon so maybe we can compare notes.
