Information, tips or tricks Buzzard's bay to Bermuda

We have been thinking of taking the leap going to Berumda from Mass/Buzzard's Bay.

Where can I find some good resources on how to properly and safely plan for the journey?

We have not done any long distance sailing, so we want to ensure we do it right and safe.

We have a great solid boat - 1968 Ohlson 38 and it wants to stretch its legs!

Naturally I want to learn what I need to know about planning on when to go (weather, etc), outfitting the boat, gear, food, local customs in Bermuda, and any other tid bit that could be helpful. Any info on this site, other websites, books, etc

Thanks for any advice!

Paul

There's a Yachting Guide to Bermuda that will tell you what you need to enter. Basically head for North Rock, Bermuda Harbor Radio will contact you when you are a hundred miles out or so. You need to email or fax Bermuda with your sail plan and arrival date. Noonsite has all the skinny and the forms are readily available. Other than that, watch the weather and have a great trip.

Bill Seifert's book: Offshore Sailing 200 Essential Passagemaking Tips by Bill Seifert and Daniel Spurr 2001, Hardcover | eBay

is generally applicable. Bill is a consultant, and his contact info is in the Marion-Bermuda race site.
