Of course the term has come to imply other things, but it would be better to be explicit about those things than to use such a term so loosely.

Did you miss the above reference to the definition of "Third World?" I have included it again below. However, I know this is a very distasteful term to those imbued with the high moral sense of political correctness--a contagion that is infecting common sense and reality to the detriment of reason.

Well said. The reality is that regardless where we go on this earth each nation or social structure is designed to do the same Preserve our species, otherwise known as our society.

Some Based on varying levels of education and technology, and individual desires/beliefs, alter their methods of achieving those goals. But in the long run it's all the same with a few twists in processes here and there.

Most of us should have learned by now, that we need to be prepared to protect ourselves because rarely will one endanger them selves (politically, socially, physically or otherwise) to protect us.

I don't beleive anyone is suggesting you don't protect yourself. What this thread shows is that ( assuming we have all the facts) is that such protection must be reasonable and consistent with the nature of the treat. Otherwise there are consequences. protection like anything else is not an open-ended right.
If in exercising that right you exceed the law, you have little choice , either you submit to " justice" or you flee, both have their problems.

Best post so far in my opinion. We're up to 16 pages, tons of legal research, legal debate, discussions of comparative jurisprudence and constitutional law and legal history - and almost zero additional research or information on the facts of the actual case at hand.

Re: In Prison in St Lucia

Speaking as a paralegal, I haven't seen any evidence of legal research, there has been no legal debate and there hasn't been any constitutional law or legal history cited.

Those who think otherwise are now invited to gnash their teeth and wave their arms.

Dave,

I suppose it may have read differently than Intended. I don't suggest anybody shoot or otherwise harm somebody else. That is each individuals decision based on circumstance, bravery, over all safety or perceived safety and a whole lot of other factors.

What ever happens, whether it be an insurance claim, the resulting Dr's bills, criminal charges/investigations or attorney fees. We all need to be prepared to protect themselves from the results of our actions, or in actions. Either of the two will have repercussions (and probably need attorneys).

Most pointless post in this thread :-)
Maybe you'd have some actual input?

OK This video sure added a little fuel to the discussion. If the Eric in this video is the Eric in this thread than whats happened to the woman, child, and dog on the boat. And again whats happened to the boat? Lastly, I've always been told to dont judge a book by its cover but...really? Come on. The Eric in the video looked about as baked as one can get. Looks like drugs might just have been involved here. Yes thats circumstantial. Just sayin...

We may be on the edge of 2013 but the old ways of judging a book by its cover is still alive and healthy as I know full well...
Look like this and you'll get pulled by UK/French customs regularly..
Look like a Rasta in the Carib and you'll be treated like a Rasta... free wil/choicel comes at a price from the great washed Majority...

Agree! With a ship like this and the rasta look you have guaranteed a Hercules plane from customs flying around each time you are 20 miles from your destination , the Caribbean is no more that 30 years agoo Caribbean,
Love the way to start the engines ,lol.... from the Video looks like a cool guy , hope this is solved soon...

Re: In Prison in St Lucia

FWIW:

Excerpted from Caribbean Compass (November 2011)
Regatta News (Page 12), concerning “The free Bequia Youth Sailors program”

“... In late May (2011), Eric Sommer, a French circumnavigator, anchored in Bequia. His dinghy was an Optimist. He “just happened” to have eight sets of Optimist sails which he had accepted, along with the dinghy, as a gift in French Polynesia. Andy traded his 14-foot fiberglass dinghy for Eric’s Opti and the eight sails ...”

Wow.

The stuff that is on your mind...................
