Hurricane Season

I , my wife lucetta and our 2years old doughter blu are going to cross the atlantic (december 2011) and to sail in carrebean area until the hurrican season, then we will back home in italy.
We have plenty of doubts where to leave our boat isola bianca II not only concerning the safe for her but also our safety (with our little blu) to reach the harbour! For example we think that venezuela could be a good choice regarding the safe of the boat but it's not regarding the safe to sail close to venezuela coast!
Please give us some suggestions

Hello, well, i can sugest you forget Venezuela, unless you want to play that game, you have some choices for hurricane season south in the winwards islands , Grenada , Trinidad , or if you want to leave the caribbean chain for a while, Aruba, Bonaire, or Colombia will be nice and safe.
Anything down of 12 degress Latitude is safe from Hurricanes, Venezuela is risky for security problems , Trinidad is not to bad, Grenada is safe, idk
you have some options . Good luck mate.

Some people lay up in Trinidad, others in Venezuela. Some go to ABC.

If you google out 'atlantic hurricane tracks' you will get some idea of where it is very unsafe and where a bit safer during the hurricane season.

So, are you flying back to Italy and leaving your boat in the Caribbean?

I keep my boat in Oyster Pond, St. Martin. The Moorings keeps many of their boats there also and is recognized as a good hurricane hole. St. Maarten also has good air fights.

What you might want to do is search Cruisers Forum for "hurricane season caribbean" There are many threads that have this exact information.

I kept my boat there for the summer of 2005, and they were OK to deal with--pretty much your average boatyard. I've heard some complaints from folks recently, though, so so you might want to research the situation carefully.

Does anyone have recent experience with insurers that are still happy with storing boats in Grenada during hurricane season? (I may start a new thread on this)
