Hurricane Season 2018

Currently in Grenada after spending 2016 and 2017 season here as well. Thinking about ABC’s or possibly Columbia for 2018 season and just now starting to research. Anyone have experience in Columbia, especially Cartagena, or in ABC’s, especially Curaçao? Would be interested in personal experiences, good or bad, and also weather and routing.

Weather right now in Columbia is still a little strong but I understand it will normally settle down by end of month; any thoughts?

We are keenly aware of the recent kidnapping of the Grenadian fishermen by some Venezuelan pirates and so will plan to sail north from Grenada (maybe catch up with some cruising friends in St Annne , Martinique then south to ABC’s.) Any other advise on route and timing? Should have autopilot reinstalled by mid April and could conceivably leave Grenada anytime after that.

Any thoughts, experiences, advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Just a note on the passage from Grenada to Bonaire. If you want to stay further north for safety reasons, you can leave Grenada on a starboard tack broad reach. This should be a quick sail. Then make one gybe toward Bonaire on another reach. Makes for a quick trip but takes you fairly far north.
