Hurricane Holes in the Bahamas

Well, there is a hurricane heading towards Nassau, at least Erika is forecasted to be a category one by Saturday, I can't find a good list of possible hurricane holes in the Bahamas. Anyone have any good suggestions for New Providence?

Thank you all in advance.

I would hop up to the canals just east of Freeport. Lucaya I think. It's an abandoned subdivision on the water. If I remember, take the first left then the first right. Nice spot but there are many others.

Don't get too excited just yet. The last update shows Erika as a hurricane on Sunday. Past Nassau at that point. You might get TS force winds, but the forecast keeps changing. Good luck.

Re: Hurricane Holes in the Bahamas

Where are you? Are you looking for Marina or mooring anchorage? We are in Great Exuma ( Emerald Cay Marina).
Chris Parker ( wish I could post his emails) has three scenarios and I'm paraphrasing so double check my info.
1) weak system passes south of or brushes southern Bahamas
2) comes right over Bahamas as weak but strengthening into cat 1 by Sunday when it reaches south Florida
3) strengthens rapidly beginning Friday night/ Saturday morning into Cat 1. Cat 1 in Central Bahamas Saturday. Then Cat 2 in NW Bahamas Sunday.

Be sure to check surge maps when looking for a place to stay. We stayed at Palm Cay ( (New providence) a few weeks ago, very well protected, good docks, but is open to the south. Can you ask the locals? They are the ones to ask. We got mixed reviews about where we are ( Emerald Cay gets surge in northern winds) but the locals say it will be a good place for cat1.
