We are sitting in Emerald Bay Marina, Exuma, tied to Bellingham floating docks. Not going nowhere until whatever it is passes or dissipates. This place survived Joaquin with little or no damage to boats here although they didn't get a direct hit.

Everybody has their opinion but my first choice besides NOT being in the path of a storm would be staying on my boat in Hatchet Bay. No place in the Bahamas has better all weather protection. Good holding can be found , don't think about a mooring .

We sat out a nasty storm in Emerald, had real bad surge, lots of busted fenders and cleats ripped out. If you are there need lots of very snug lines and many strong fenders.

I wouldn't try Warderick Wells unless you can be guaranteed a spot, and you can't. Between the Majors (Staniel Cay) is pretty well protected but very tight and would probably be crowded in this circumstance. Farther north, there's Norman's Cay.

Hatchet has good protection, but not great holding. Here are some places as good as or better
-Hurricane Holes on Stocking (off Elizabeth Harbour)
-Cave Cay
-Stanial Cay off the airport (shallow draft)
-Waderick Wells, North Field
-Normans if shallow Draft
-Highborne Marina if they let you in.
-Cape Eleurthra Marina
-Spanish Wells
-Marina at Atlantis (Nassau)
-Palm Cay Marina (New Providence)
-Great Harbour Marina
-Lucaya (Grand Bahama)
-Treasure Cay (Abaco)
-Man O War
-Black Sound Green Turtle Cay.

Probably more. These places offer some protection, but reality there are NO good places to hide from a direct hit in the Bahamas. Land is too low and so little protection from wind and surge.

I'm confused there is Norman's Pond Cay near Lee Stocking Island with the old Carib Research Center. That cay has a salt pond with no entrance right?

Norman's Cay has the North Harbour ("pond") with the very tricky entrance, but it has an enclosed harbor. Anybody who has been thru it, wouldn't mind some intel. Which rock do you stay to, we draw 4'2" and are pretty adventurous, but haven't try it. The current was ripping out when we looked at it.

I'm would do Warwick Wells, very good moorings, lots for storm surge with northers and west winds.
Shame Sampson Cay is closed, that seemed pretty protected.
The Berrys have Great Harbor Marina, That is a very good spot, concert piers.

Not a whole lot of places to hide in the Exumas.

The Norman's Pond I'm talking about is in the north part of Normans Cay. Enter on high tide. The Norman's Pond by Lee Stocking is not navigable. As for the holes in Stocking Island, good luck in getting in. Holes 2 and 3 are full of private moorings. Hole 1 is really open and hole 0 (turtle Pond) is only good for small cats or tris.
