Re: Heads Up - Possible Tropical Weather Developement

This time of year, every cloud patch in the Atlantic becomes a possible named storm. If we jump at each one, by November we will all be a nervous wreck. Here is the NHC discussion.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 800 AM EDT MON JUL 21 2014 For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: 1. Shower activity associated with a broad area of low pressure located about 1200 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands has become a little better organized over the past several hours. However, any additional development of this system is expected to be slow to occur over the next couple of days while it moves toward the west or west-northwest at 15 to 20 mph. After that time, environmental conditions are expected to become less conducive for development. * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

Re: Heads Up - Possible Tropical Weather Developement

We who have boats in the water here in the hurricane belt tend to pay attention to these. we get them days before they threaten anyone the news media gives a rats about. So we can't count on the network news to point them out when they start threatening Galveston or Tampa. That's too late for us.

Do y'all watch this earth wind thing? I've become addicted. Make sure you have the date adjusted to today's date.

Re: Heads Up - Possible Tropical Weather Developement

I got a new free toy for the iPad. Its called Hurricane Track and its free in iStore.

Its just the NHC stuff, except for one jim dandy feature: it uses the iPads GPS and camera and the NOAA plot to show you EXACTLY where the hurricane is compared to your location. So, like running a bearing to a ship we should be able to see if a hurricane is gunna run us down.

Now, is that a toy, or what! hours of cyclonic entertainment!

Re: Heads Up - Possible Tropical Weather Developement

The system has just been upgraded to a Tropical Depression.

A mate of mine is heading south and is gunna be bumping it. Not the sort of guy with satellite phone... And doesnt speak French and thats the language of the islands south of here till St Lucia.

The weather here has been a stable as can be and doesnt feel summerish at all. This system has grown remarkably quickly...

It just goes to show ya can't stuff about in hurricane season!
