Haulout and Storage for Sailboat on East Coast USA

I am looking to leave my sailboat ashore in Georgia or The Carolinas for the summer months. Ideally I'd like to have the boat tied down with chained props (for the insurance). Does anyone have any information / experience on any boatyards in these areas?

I've had good experiences with Ross Marine here in Charleston SC.

Is this a "storage only" situation or do you need to work on the boat? DIY or yard labor? Liveaboard while working?

Swan Point Marina in Sneads Ferry is a funky DIY yard that allows liveaboards.

Swan Point Marina and Boat Yard

Anchors Away Marina is Hempstead has a free haul-and-splash program but I don't know as much about their policies or fees.

FREE HAUL PROGRAM EXTENDED

No matter where you are, I've found prices to be negotiable by at least 20% lately.

It's 40ft and for storage only , no work needed right now (although it is a boat) - I'll look at the suggested yards - thanks.

In Oriental, look at Sailcraft and Deaton. Down the ICW on Adams Creek, Bach Marine is your place. I worry a bit about Swan Point and Anchors, not because of what they provide, but they are awfully close to the ocean during hurricane season. But that's just me.

If you bring the boat north of Norfolk your insurance costs may be lower.

The yard mentioned above that is South of Oriental is Bock Marine and is on the ICW/Core Creek about 8 miles North of Beaufort, NC.

Bock Marine

It's a great place to store a boat in this area, to work on your boat, to have work done, and to liveaboard during some or all of that. There are plenty of trees for hurricane protection and a lot of boats come here if there is a hurricane threat. Prices are fair/good etc.

There are plenty of folks that make a long trip to get to this yard, and I plan to return here whenever I can for work/storage.

Re: Haulout and Storage for Sailboat on East Coast USA

Hello

I have the same plan. Sailing in the middle of August (because it's my childs hollidays in France) from Cape Canaveral to Charleston.

I have noticed two boatyards : RossMarine and CityBoatyard.

Do you know which is the better (more protected) ? Is there any good other boatyards near this town ?

Thanks a lot
