Getting weather info in the South Caribbean

Dear all,
I've looked hard but cant find any clear information on this.
I'm going to be heading up from Trinidad to the BVI's and then back down on an extended trip. Leaving in November and returning in June

Currently unsure how I would get weather reports without the internet.
I have heard sometimes this is broadcast over VHF, or 'ask other yachties' but obviously I'd rather be self reliant.

Any experience of this and the best way to go about it?
Any help greatly appreciated

Re: Getting weather info in the South Caribbean

Weather is available on the VHF Cruiser Nets in Grenada, St. Lucia, Martinique, and St. Maarten, every day.

When you are out of range of the morning VHF broadcasts you can use SSB for weather. There are several morning SSB nets that broadcast the weather every day.

Check the paper edition of the free Caribbbean Compass (or get the current issue online) for the available daily nets and you will be well covered for weather (Caribbeancompass.com).

Obviously the best way is to get your own weather is online, when you have a data connection.

Good luck!

Do you have SSB? If so, then you can get NOAA voice broadcasts and RadioFAX (with a little extra gear).

Chris Parker does regular SSB broadcasts: https://www.mwxc.com/index.php.

There are many cruiser SSB nets which usually at least summarize the weather. You can find frequencies and times on NoonSite.
