The Abbott government has introduced laws that can gazette prohibited places. The following is one from the Smart Traveller website on an area of Syria. I'm not sure of the others or how many there are.

It is an offence under Australian law for Australians to enter or remain in the Syrian province of al Raqqa. This province has been declared by the Minister for Foreign Affairs as an area in which a listed terrorist organisation is engaging in a hostile activity. See Safety and security.

Certainly not a good idea to arrive at Playa Girón with guns on board 😜

About cigars, in general. Cigarettes and cigars in the US have a lot of paper impregnated with nitrate in them. A cheap cigar is just about 100% paper. You can't get cigarettes and cigars with 100% tobacco. The exception is pipe tobacco, which can be 100% tobacco.

In Canada, Players and Export A cigarettes are pure tobacco, as I remember from years ago. They're very strong.

The appeal of Cuban cigars comes from this, they're 100% tobacco.

Low quality cigars may indeed have paper in them, but good quality cigars, Cuban or not, don't. I have a humidor full of cigars that are 100% tobacco. I know for sure because I've watched them being made.

Good for you on going to Cuba.
Also good for you deciding you didn't really want to go to Mexico lol.

We sailed to Marina Hemingway earlier this year and the customs folks took the gun and ammunition (after carefully counting the rounds). These items were returned upon departure. No problem.

I'd like to go back ask crew if anyone is looking for crew! It's a fascinating place to visit.
