Fort Lauderdale 'Local Knowledge'

My wife and I are headed to Ft Lauderdale in the morning to load our boat onto the Dockwise Super Servant IV for her return ride to the Caribbean. We are going to be there a few days and would appreciate advice on good restaurants. We are also going to need a hotel one night after the boat is loaded, any suggestions for a nice place to stay for just one night?

Pick up a Zagats guide for Ft.Lauderdale/Miami for restaurant reviews. Bluewater Books has it along with a lot of other places. Ratings are done by regular people who are dining out. Has everything from the most exclusive to local hangouts.

Re: Fort Lauderdale 'Local Knowledge'

My wife and I stayed in Ft. Lauderdale while visiting the Miami boat show a few day days ago. We stayed at the Cocobelle Resort just off the beach. Its not really a resort, but one of the nicest 'mom and pop' hotels we've encountered. They have a website and are highly rated on trip advisor. Lots of restaurants in vicinity, but we didn't have a chance to check them out.

Re: Fort Lauderdale 'Local Knowledge'

There are a million restaurants. A couple of my favorites are Chuck's and Bimini Boatyard off 17th Street. Also Coconuts beachside (with dinghy dock). Bahia Cabana is more casual and on weekends you can watch docking and undocking for entertainment.

A million hotels also. I have stayed at Bahia Mar which has a large marina and a walkover to the beach and used to be fairly reasonable for beachside. The mainland hotels of course are less expensive.

I have two relatively inexpensive favorites in the Ft. Lauderdale area. First is Tark's in Dania, for excellent fish, chicken wings, raw bar, etc.

Also, if you like barbeque, you have to try Tom Jenkins BBQ:
