Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

Navarre bridge says 50' on chart. The buddy boat we are traveling with needs 49 feet. Any local knowledge on this bridge would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Erika

Better to go to the outside. That Navarre Bridge at Marker 207 is a little under 50', more like 49.5'. I always get out of the ditch along that stretch.

Re: Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

Thanks, the charts are saying 50' but active captain said they might be less. My friend called the bridges and they could not help her with an exact height at high tide( how can you not know how tall your bridge is?). Anyways, thanks for the input.

We go outside from Pensacola to Destin. Outside to panama City. Outside to Port St. Joe. It's gonna be tight with a 49' air draft.

Re: Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

The Brooks bridge is even shorter than the Navarre bridge. It's usually about 48 feet.

They don't know exactly because of the tides, which change both daily and with the wind direction. The Brooks bridge has an indicator, but I don't know if I'd trust it if I were close to the limit. There is sometimes a really big penalty for getting that wrong, so I'd recommend that boats that are close to go outside. It's too bad, as that's a pretty scenic route.

Re: Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

I grew up on the water in Fort Walton and Destin area and have seen a couple boats smack both Brooks and Destin bridge. I highly suggest people not skipping over Destin as you can still enjoy the harbor and dinning/nightlife without going under the Destin bridge.

Re: Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

Erika,
We looked at this too and decided on outside. I use 51' as my limit to clear my vhf antenna on the same boat ... and since you need to enter Destin on a high tide at slack water, I don't think I'll clear.

Re: Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

I'll pass this along.thanks for the advice!
Bill we are getting together for the Super Bowl, I think over at Sabine Marina. Give us or Palm Latitude a call if you want to meet up, we have the VHF on dual 16/68. We are moving over to the Sabine Marina today to spend some time with our friends before we go our separate ways on Monday ( sniff sniff).
Cheers

Re: Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

The outside run from Pensacola Pass to Destin Pass is about 50-55 miles so if you pick a good day that shouldn't be a problem.

The water on the outside is very beautiful also but not so in the narrows East of the Navarre Bridge on the inside.

Looks like the wind Monday is NNW 15-25 so that should be perfect for a run to Destin. This is weather channel wind though not marine forecast. And you should be able to stay in relatively close and have a smooth sail.

Re: Florida East of Pensacola Navarre Causeway Height Clearance

I just noticed that you are going to be at the Sabine Marina. The Pensacola Beach Yacht Club is right there so you may want to go in and speak with some of the sailors there.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Pe...fc2fcea3db5fe0

This time of year especially during a north wind the water levels are so low that at shallow marinas on the mainland boats are sitting on their keels and leaning over.

And I think it's like 6 miles that you have already gone East from Ft Mcree.
