Fire Island . New York

Anyone know the controlling depth of the Hempstead Bay state boat channel
just north of Fire Island ? I need to move a boat with a 4 1/2 foot draft
out of the Great South Bay. I understand the Fire Island Cut is now too
shallow, and I'll have to head west under the Wantagh Parkway and out the
Jones Beach cut.
BTW ( love some feedback on this) I - have come to understand - that the USCG will not release to the public information on passages through certain cuts.
That is to say that the CG, through itís own runs in itís own boats, develops knowledge as to where good, deep, passages are in channels. For reasons that I was told have to do with liability they will not share this data with the public. It sounds absurd; surely this is one of the primary functions of the agency in the first place.
Iím being less than precise here intentionally as I donít want to compromise the person who gave me this, and Iím contemplating a letter to the CG and my congressman.
